October 2026 — Global Passport and PDF documents

New

  • Global Passport — Verify passports from any country with POST /api/onboarding/document_verification/passport. Send country when you know it, or leave it out and we detect it. In the Web SDK, choose which countries each SDK setup accepts; customers pick theirs from a searchable list.
  • PDF documents — Document uploads accept JPG, PNG, or a single-page PDF, up to 10 MB, on every document verification endpoint and in the Web SDK. Selfies stay JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB.

Changes

  • Expired documents fail the check. The API returns 400 with "Document has expired." and still includes the details read from the document. In the Web SDK, the verification fails with failure_reason: "Document has expired.".
  • New result fields: document_country and face_match.decision / face_match.compare_mode in document verification responses; country, passport_check_problems, face_match.compare_mode and face_match.selfie_source in the Web SDK result and webhook document block.
  • Document face match without liveness: in-app and API document checks compare the document photo with the selfie, with no liveness check on the selfie (compare_mode: "COMPARISON_NO_LIVENESS"). Web SDK checks still run liveness on the customer’s face scan.
  • Web SDK 1.0.101 is required for the Global Passport and PDF uploads.

May 2025 — v3 Launch

Adhere v3 is now the primary API version. v3 brings a cleaner endpoint structure, richer response data, and expanded country coverage.

New in v3

  • User Journey Tracking — New session-based API to track and validate transaction event sequences and flag out-of-order or suspicious behaviour in real time.
  • OpenAPI Playground — Every endpoint page now has a built-in interactive playground. Authenticate once with your API key and test requests directly from the docs.

Improvements

  • Unified x-access-token header authentication across all endpoints.
  • Consistent JSON response structure: { status, data, message } on all endpoints.
  • Activity codes for transaction monitoring consolidated and documented (200–221 safe, 450–457 suspicious).
  • Loan Fraud Check now supports an optional run_aml_check flag for both individual and business applications.
